Ways to help a friend become a reader
This booklet summarises different ideas and activities about teaching a friend to read. The activities discussed are all variations of the whole language approach. The information is taken from a larger book that was written by Barry Borneman and published in 1994. Although this was some years ago, the ideas he discussed are still very useful and relevant to literacy tutoring and teaching today. The notes have been adapted for use in Melanesian contexts. Barry's key point is that anyone who can read better than another person, can, in an atmosphere of mutual respect, help that other person to read better. This booklet gives details of useful ways that you can do just that.
